Microsoft Project Server 2010 Category & Global Permission GUIDs
Have you ever attempted an PWA operation as a non-administrator and received an error message like the following:
But the million dollar question is:
What is global permission 85993afd-5430-4c0e-bdcf-12e013fa0b1e ?
We know at first glance that it is a Global Unique ID, otherwise known as a GUID, and that software applications use GUIDs as a means of identification to other applications, components, objects, etc. But how do find out what is the “human name” for this GUID?
Well I received a fantastic little tip from Brian Smith :
1. At the error message, press CTRL + C to copy the message
2. Open Notepad and press CTRL + V to paste the message
3. The copy the GUID.
4. Open a PWA page that has the global permissions listed,
5. From the View menu, click Source.
6. From the Source page, press CTRL + F.
This will display the Find dialog box.
7. In the Find Dialog box, in the Find box, paste the GUID and click Next.
The GUID should be displayed
8. If you look down a few lines you will see the name of the permission is New Resource.
So I decided for the sake of saving a bit of time I have listed all the GUIDs for all the Category and Global Permissions. Here they are:
